Introduction To The Financial District

Financial District Map

The Financial District (sometimes referred to as Downtown) is not an officially recognized neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It is largely a retail and commercial office district with a minimum number of buildings dedicated to residential dwellings. Popular newly constructed loft-style living condo buildings can be found along Broad, South and Devonshire Streets.

Financial District Real Estate: The Neighborhood Defined

Boston's Financial District is located in the downtown area near Government Center and Chinatown. Like many named areas within Boston, the Financial District has no official definition. It is roughly bounded by Atlantic Avenue, State and Devonshire Streets.

Architecturally the Financial District is the product of an urban renewal clearance and therefore is not dominated by one particular architectural style like the neighborhoods of Back Bay, or Beacon Hill. While the district's core remains a place of commerce, host to several mutual fund companies and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, it is increasing home to center-city loving residents.
