Introduction To Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill Neighborhood Map

Beacon Hill is an officially recognized neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It is an upscale residential and retail district as well as being home to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' state house and other government office buildings. Beacon Hill and neighboring Back Bay are considered Boston's most expensive Boston real estate neighborhoods, with townhouses regularly selling for millions of dollars. The popular upmarket shopping destination includes the length of Charles Street from Boston Common, the oldest park in the country, to Cambridge Street.

Beacon Hill Real Estate: The Neighborhood Defined

Approximately one square mile in size, Beacon Hill is bound by Beacon Street, Bowdoin Street, Cambridge Street and Storrow Drive.

Architecturally the neighborhood and Beacon Hill real estate are reflective of old colonial Boston, consisting of brick row houses with beautiful doors, decorative iron work, brick sidewalks, narrow streets, and gas lamps in its central and western, more residential portion; the eastern part of the neighborhood is far more commercial and is the seat of the commonwealth's government.
